Different Types of Fuel Hoses

It is important for a repair shop specializing in fuel system repairs to stock different types of fuel lines or hoses. This way, a durable repair job can be done. There are so many varieties of fuel hoses available considering different sizes, materials, attachment fittings etc.

The Standard for a Fuel Hose Is the Neoprene Hose

They can be used for vehicles that have working pressures below 50 psi. This fuel hose is petroleum resistant and it comes with a cover that has some resistance against heat, ozone, and weathering. You can also use this hose for diesel and ethanol laced fuel. But there are certain limitations to this nitrile tube. You should avoid using it in fuel injection systems and coolant systems that have a pressure exceeding 50 psi. You can find neoprene fuel hoses in a variety of sizes. There is another variety that comes with steel braiding for special applications. But there is a difficulty when it comes to clamping it with a standard issue fitting. Therefore, you will need to have special fittings that are appropriate for this braided fuel line.

You can even purchase a submersible fuel hose if required. Whereas a standard fuel hose is built to withstand fuel on the inside only, you may be faced with certain situations where gasoline comes into contact with the external surface of the hose. This happens in in-tank applications and there will be constant contact with the hose. In this case you will need a submersible hose that can be fully immersed in gasoline, ethanol, diesel, biodiesel and alcohol extended gasoline.

For a fuel injection system, you can select a high pressure fuel hose. You need to check the SAE rating for the fuel hose before the purchase. These high pressure hoses can be used for all fuel blends. You can even use it with direct methanol. There is abrasion resistance for the outer coating with resistant to ozone. You can even use this for low pressure applications; the only thing that will affect the purchase will be the high cost.

There is a marine fuel hose as well that can be used for light trucks and carbureted passenger cars. You can find gas resistant vinyl tubing in small engines that can be found in a motorcycle or a lawnmower.

This Can Be Found in ATVs As Well

Some hoses will not be used in fuel applications such as the standard heater or vacuum hose. If you use these for fuel, the hose will get damaged from the inside out and the rubber from the inside can actually block fuel filters. Metal fuel lines can be found in many cars and they are made from coated steel, aluminium or stainless. This is a very good material for a fuel hose.

There is also rubber fuel hoses that are rated for fuel. These should be attached using the fuel line hose camps and other standard barbed fittings. Braided rubber hoses will have a braided nylon or braided stainless exterior and this has a little more durability than a simple rubber hose.
